Miguel Angel Wins Third Champions Tour event at Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic

Last Sunday Miguel Angel secured his third victory from just ten starts on the Champions Tour at the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic presented by C-Spire, at Fallen Oak Golf Club in Biloxi, USA.

It proved to be a long and tiring week for everyone with Friday’s play suspended entirely following a heavy storm.  Players returned on Saturday to Fallen Oak to much improved conditions but with the prospect of a long day ahead, when they played both the first and second rounds on the same day.

On Sunday, the man from Malaga, who started the final round three strokes off the lead, secured the victory with a final round of 64 including four consecutive birdies from hole 10 to 13 to win two strokes ahead of Scott Dunlap.  Miguel Angel’s final bogey free round proved to be the lowest final round in the history of the tournament.

Miguel Angel said, "I am very happy, very happy with this victory! It was a long day on Friday with play finally being suspended and then on Saturday having to play 36 holes was tough. But today has been a great day and I played very well, without getting into problems or mistakes, and I was really pleased to post a score without any bogeys and with eight birdies.

"It was very special for me to have my son, Miguel Angel, with me during the week in Biloxi.  I think he must be my lucky charm as he was also with me when I won the Spanish Open in 2014 !

"I'm hitting the ball well and I feel comfortable again.”
